HELPING TO PREVENT VETERAN SUICIDE

Our AFCT funded project is based at our Veteran Community HUB located in Chesterfield Town Centre but we cover  the whole of Derbyshire.

The project’s focus is to work along side mental health and Blue light services, addiction services and criminal justice to help embed prevention of  veteran suicide. As many as five British veterans per week die by suicide. Many more struggle with ongoing issues such as loneliness and isolation, addiction, the effects of transition and PTSD. It is not only the veteran themselves who is affected, many veteran family members struggle to support their loved ones also, and live in fear that they may take their own life.

We now have a dedicated veteran family mental health liaison worker who will reach out to affected veterans and family members. Working closely  with the family they will help the veteran to access mental health support and provide ongoing family support , linking in with our  range  of STDVCS services including; mental health and wellbeing activities, group support, access to trauma and bereavement counselling.

If you are a family member that has been affected by the death by suicide of a loved one please get in touch.

As one of our veteran family members told us:

This project has literally saved my husband’s life, his mental health  has improved so much, he regularly engages with other veterans now and has just returned to work. our whole family are now able to function positively around him

If you think you or a loved one might benefit from this service, please call in to the veteran hub in chesterfield 15 Steeplegate, vicar Lane or ring our VIP line on 01246 959333.
