Padley Gorge New Year Walk

On 10th January 2024 our Veterans took to the hills and moors of Derbyshire to blow the Christmas cobwebs away, we started at Longshaw Hall (National Trust) which was used as a convalescent hospital during WW1, and then continued through the estate to Padley Gorge and beyond. The conversations and banter flowed throughout as we cut through the fog to find shelter from the breeze in Lawrence Field Quarry, we then descended the gulley where once millstones were transported to the railway for use throughout the world. With slightly sore knees for some, a well-earned brew and breakfast rolls were enjoyed at the legendary Grindleford Café, before the uphill Padley Gorge river walk taking us back to Longshaw – just under 10km was the distance. Well done to all those Veterans who took part we will see you next time for Black Rocks in February.
